I have always loved reading, I have been a reader ever since I can remember. I've always had bookshelves full of books. As a child, I took weekly trips to the library to check out books. I saved my money to buy books instead of toys or whatever else kids were buying back then. I read books instead of watching TV. I always had my nose in a book.
For some reason, I stopped reading a few years back. I don't know why, It was around the time I got married, so maybe that was part of it. Maybe there was just nothing out I was interested in reading. Either way, all I know is that I was not reading at all. I often looked at my bookshelves full of books, and wondered why the heck I had abandoned them, but I guess I was too busy doing something else to worry about it too much.
Then one glorious day, my mother in law recommended The Twilight Saga books to me. I was instantly hooked! I became obsessed, I kid you not, I could not sleep the night I read Twilight. I just couldn't wait to read the rest of the series. It was around the same time the first movie was out, so it took me a little over a week to read the entire series because I couldn't find the books anywhere! It was so frustrating! They were sold out everywhere!
So how did Twilight change my life? It awakened my love for reading! I was going about my life not doing something I loved. Reading Twilight reminded me of my love for books. Reminded me of how amazing it is to get lost in the pages of a book, and completely lose track of time. How it's possible to fall completely head over heels in love with a character. To not be able to think about anything else other than that book. To alienate your husband for days, because you spend every free moment reading. I probably love reading now more even more than before!
Yes, Twilight did that to me. It made me so happy to be reading again. I immediately started searching for new books to read. I remember spending hours at the bookstore looking for reading material. Ever since then, I have not stopped reading. I got back into my groove of always having a book in my purse, always a list of books I want to read. I have read so many amazing books since then. I have Twilight to thank for this. Who knows if I would have ever started reading again if weren't for Twilight!
My Twilight Saga book collection!
I still wasn't reading as much as I wanted to, so at the beginning of 2011, I decided to challenge myself. My goal was to read 52 books in 2011. Well, I shattered my goal! I'm on book 67 right now! I couldn't be happier with the results!
Has something similar ever happened to you?
Has a book ever changed your life in any way?

Twilight did that to me too. I started reading back when the 3rd book had JUST come out.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine what would've happened if I hadn't have picked it up!
Harry Potter changed my entire life.
ReplyDeleteA family friend (a nun!) gave me the (at the time) three book series for my birthday. Because I fell in love with Harry Potter, I went online to the message boards and met a girl named Jen. Eight years later, we're still together, four of these years being happily married girls. <3 I love her with all my heart and soul.
♥ I love this. I think Twilight did that for a lot of people. I find for me, I go through phases of reading anything and everything for months and then it's like I get to a point where I don't want to pick up another book and that lasts a few months then the cycle repeats. I'm currently on a not reading much phase, though I am reading Water For Elephants at the moment!
ReplyDeleteThis is a SERIOUS post Star! lol (since we were talking about it on twitter)--- but seriously, Twilight had me hooked from the beginning too. I swear I've read Twilight 1000x and still plan on reading it again before BD Part 1. It's just such an awesome love story and you really get lost in it!!!! love this post xoxo
ReplyDeleteWow! You have read so many books this year! I did the same thing when I first read the twilight books! I read and read and even up until 3 in the morning! I did that with Harry Potter, too, though so it wasnt just Twilight for me!
ReplyDeleteReading the series of Twilight did awaken my love for reading again also. It is so hard for me to get into a book if I cannot get into the book in the first chapter but this series I had no problem with that and now I am into reading again.
ReplyDeleteTwilight did the same thing to me!! This was such.an awesome post!
ReplyDeleteI've always loved reading but Twilight turned me onto the more supernatural books (I've actually read everything in your pile, minus 5 or 6), which I love more than anything else! I read Twilight, then waited for Eclipse, then waited for New Moon, then waited for Breaking Dawn.... I hate how it turned into a craze, but I still love the whole series!
ReplyDeleteXoXo
You are so funny! I am like that with Emily Giffin books :) Did you update my new URL in your reader/dashboard??? http://www.acompletewasteofmakeup.com/
ReplyDeleteSo true. Twilight reawakened my love for reading again as well. Without it, I wouldn't have found many other books that I have come to love. :)
ReplyDeleteI did a post on my goodies from the blog swap by the way. I wasn't sure if you were planning on making a separate post for that or not...? I know you mentioned something about linking up but I know my blog is already on that list for signing up so I wasn't sure what you wanted me to do. Anyway, just let me know!
You took words right out of my mouth! I couldn't have made a post that was more true than this.
ReplyDeleteSO glad that you and I relate about Twlight.
This post is scary similar to my life! lol
Harry Potter was what got me into reading... that and having a part time job in high school where there was nothing but down time so I started to read a ton!!! Now I read every chance I get! Wasn't the Hunger Games a great book!?
ReplyDeletethat is exactly what happened to me. I picked up the first book after a friend made me watch Twilight in theaters. After that I had to know what else was going on. I was hooked. I read them 2xs in a row. I was in love. My love for reading was brought back to life. :)
ReplyDeleteI feel the EXACT same way! I got back in to reading like a fiend after I devoured the Twilight series. More power to ya!
ReplyDeleteYou have soo many of the books for Twilight! When I go overseas do you want me to get you their versions?
